There was good news and bad news for Liverpool fans on Tuesday night.Anfield was quite rightly bouncing at full-time of the Reds’ game against Napoli that saw the club book a place in the Champions League last 16.Liverpoolbeat the Serie A club 1-0, however, they must play the first game of their knockout game without influential defender Virgil van Dijk.2

Van Dijk was booked for this challenge on Dries Mertens

The defender was booked for a his tackle on striker Dries Mertens early in the first half.It appeared harsh at first, but replays showed Van Dijk caught Mertens on the follow through with his studs despite the boos that rang out from the home end.Joe Gomez is currently sidelined with a leg fractureand it means manager Jurgen Klopp will have to play without his first choice centre-back pairing in the next phase.2

Van Dijk’s yellow card means he will miss the next Champions League game
